Fresno State has over 60 acres of winegrape vineyard right on campus. Barbera, Syrah, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon are but a few of our predominant red varietals, while Muscat Canelli and Albarino are two of our best whites. Being in the Central San Joaquin Valley, we experience a prolonged warm growing season which, when managed well, can lead to excellent sugar development.
All the wines produced at the Fresno State Winery are available year round at the Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market and complements the fresh table grapes and raisins produced in the remaining 60 acres of vineyards.
When the glaciers of the Sierra Nevada melted ions ago, they brought to the Valley all the rich minerals of the upper Sierra range. This led to feeding one of the most fertile agricultural regions in the nation and the world. The vineyards at Fresno State continue to draw upon that rich geological foundation, providing the basis for our iconic, deep, earthy and aromatic varietals.
